Top insider trades (week of Jan 13)
Welcome to this week’s edition of CEO Watcher. This is the only tool that tracks the returns of insiders so we know which insider trades are worth copying.
It was a bit of a slow week as we are entering earnings season and insider buying/selling tends to decrease around now.
This week we found:
A 10% owner buys $1.7M
A CEO buys the dip
A 10% owner makes their first 3 purchases
Have a great weekend and thanks for reading!

In our December 21st morning email to Premium Subscribers, we highlighted $BCAB as the top insider purchase of the day due to the awesome win rates and returns.
And then just one week later, the stock jumped 36%!

Top Insider Trades this Week
🥇 10% Owner at KalVista Pharmaceuticals, Inc. ($KALV)
The 10% Owner purchased 137,700 shares at $12.54/share ($1.73M total) which increased their holdings by 3.3%. The current price is $12.71 (+1.4%). (trade link)
Historic Returns
1m returns: 86% weighted | 17% median | 100% win rate (4/4)
3m returns: 46% weighted | 30% median | 50% win rate (2/4)
6m returns: 19% weighted | 3% median | 50% win rate (2/4)
1y returns: 37% weighted | 20% median | 50% win rate (2/4)
Note: 3rd buy in the last couple of weeks. We own this in the Premium Portfolio and are already up over 8%.
Rating: 8
Why: Only a 50% win rate (except for 1-month returns) and not an executive, but they have really good returns (especially short-term) and have been making large purchases for a couple of weeks in a row.
🥈Chief Executive Officer at Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc. ($WBA)
The Chief Executive Officer purchased 10,000 shares at $24.22/share ($242K total) which increased their holdings by 1.7%. The current price is $24.03 (-1%). (trade link)
Historic Returns
1m returns: 7% weighted | 7% median | 100% win rate (1/1)
3m returns: 34% weighted | 34% median | 100% win rate (1/1)
6m returns: 26% weighted | 26% median | 100% win rate (1/1)
1y returns: 59% weighted | 59% median | 100% win rate (1/1)
Note: His first purchase as CEO of $WBA. His only other purchase was of $ESRX in 2017 when he was the CEO there. He bought the dip in WBA when they announced their dividend cut.
Rating: 6
Why: There just isn’t enough history to rate it any higher and there are some concerns that he could just be doing this as a show of confidence after the dividend cuts caused the stock price to dip a little bit, but it’s still a CEO making an open market purchase and his previous trade had great returns.
🥉 10% Owner at Fresh Tracks Therapeutics, Inc. ($FRTX)
The 10% Owner purchased 51,502 shares at $0.98/share ($50,471.96 total) which increased their holdings by 6.6%. The current price is $0.99 (+0.7%). (trade link)
Historic Returns
1m returns: N/A
3m returns: N/A
6m returns: N/A
1y returns: N/A
Note: This is now their 3rd purchase since December 21st. They made no purchases before then.
Rating: 6
Why: Even less history than the 2nd place insider, but this is the first time they have ever purchased stock on the open market and they have already bought the stock 3 times between $0.84 and $0.98 in the last 3 weeks.
